Getting started

Trim audio in three steps

01

Add a track

Drop an audio file or pick one from your phone or computer. The waveform appears as soon as the file is read.

02

Set the cut

Drag the two handles, tap the waveform to move the nearest one, or type exact times. Press play to hear only the selection.

03

Export

Choose MP3 or WAV, add a short fade if you like, and download the clip.

Large files

Built for long recordings and slower devices

Sonic Trim reads big WAV files in small pieces, so a long recording opens quickly and uses very little memory. Cutting a WAV to WAV without a fade is instant and lossless, and keeps the original bit depth. Compressed files such as MP3 or M4A have to be decoded in full before they can be edited, so very large ones may not open on a phone.

01
Loads only what it needs

The editor is fetched when you pick a file, and the MP3 encoder is fetched only if you export to MP3.

02
Lossless WAV cuts

Exporting a WAV clip from a WAV file copies the selected audio exactly as it is.

03
Clear limits

If a compressed file is too large for your device, Sonic says so and suggests using WAV instead of failing silently.

Your audio stays in the browser

No upload to trim

The file you select is read and cut on your device. The clip is created locally and handed to you as a download.

Good for private recordings

Meetings, interviews, lectures and voice notes can be trimmed without sending them to a third-party service.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about Sonic Trim

Which formats can I trim?

Any audio format your browser can decode, including MP3, WAV, FLAC, AAC, OGG and M4A. You can export the clip as MP3 or WAV.

Does trimming reduce quality?

Cutting a WAV file to WAV does not change the audio at all. Exporting to MP3 re-encodes the clip, so choose a higher bitrate if quality matters.

Why did my MP3 not open on my phone?

Compressed files must be fully decoded, which takes a lot of memory. Very large MP3, FLAC or M4A files can exceed what a phone allows. Convert the file to WAV first, or use a computer.

Is my audio uploaded?

No. Trimming happens in your browser and the result is created on your device.

Is Sonic Trim free?

Yes, and no account is needed.
